I feel it necessary to add a bit of information involving the issues with lag that might not be CoD's fault. I took some time today and researched some of the networking issues concerning CoD.
A gentleman that goes by OvenBakedMuffin had some really great videos showing huge advantages for one player over another. Here's the link to his video that clearly show's the connection issues are not in our heads. The video evidence and the commentary are top notch. I'm not sure I agree with the reasons he gives for the lag delays, but there's no question they exist. I highly suggest watching this video. It's long but it's also one of the most informative video I've ever seen about Black Ops 2.
However, after reading more about network issues involving more than just the PS3, I came across a term called Bufferbloating. A very simplified explication is a traffic jam of packets that is occurring on your home network's side and is not a result of lag comp or the networking code CoD uses. Now I just started reading on this subject, so I can all I give is my first impressions of what I got out of it. The sporadic nature of data transfer causes masses amounts of data to be transferred all at once. The existing system to control this traffic is hindered by the cached memory in your router. The previous methods used to prevent packet loss are now causing your connection to clutter. Resetting your router and modem clears the cached memory fixing the problem until it happens again. The sporadic nature of this is what makes it extremely difficult to fix. CoDel (pronounced "coddle", and standing for "Controlled Delay") is a new no-knobs Active Queue Management algorithm that deals with this issue. As far as I can tell it's not available unless you can use their open source data and write your own firmware for your router.Bufferbloating would absolutely explain the crazy swings I've experienced in my gameplays. I've definitely got to read more about it, but it makes sense.
Also if anyone has seen Drifter's video on how to fix the lag comp in BO2, his solution is to bypass the router completely. When this is done, there isn't a massive amount of cached memory to cause Bufferbloating, and results in you not being at a disadvantage when it comes to lag.
